The original Cherry Creek Shopping Center opened in 1951, after architect Temple Buell spent 25 years planning and developing the concept. Over the years, the center expanded until it covered about 440,000 square feet of retail space. In the mid-1980s, Buell partnered with an established developer of high-end shopping centers, The Taubman Company. Cherry Creek reopened in 1991 as a substantially larger and more elite indoor retail center, designed to make the shopping experience comfortable and fun. Now home to such names as Saks Fifth Avenue and Neiman Marcus, Cherry Creek Shopping Center is the one of the most visited attractions in Denver.

Several large, annual community events give residents a chance to mingle and visitors a chance to enjoy all Cherry Creek has to offer. The best known of these is the Cherry Creek Arts Festival held during Independence Day weekend. As many as 350,000 people spend their Fourth of July in Cherry Creek, strolling through exhibits, sampling local foods and meeting with the exhibiting artists. Other popular community events include the Cherry Creek Sneak, a 5-mile race, and the Farmers Market, held during the summer months. When temperatures dip low enough, Cherry Creek North hosts an outdoor ice skating rink, as well as a variety of holiday events and programs.

Because of Cherry Creek's centralized location, residents can easily spend their spare time enjoying more of Denver, including its eclectic neighborhoods, the array of recreational opportunities and its professional sports teams. Denver offers many museums and historic mansions to explore, the country's largest city park system, two amusement parks, easy access to ski resorts and much more.
